The Faire Management is highly dedicated to maintaining a positive wildlife impact at the faire site. We are working with the Bastrop-Caldwell County Wildlife Management Association (BCCWM), the Red Rock Wildlife Management Association (RRWMA) and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) to assist us. There is a Wildlife Management Program for the 55 acres available to the Faire management. Certain areas are dedicated exculisively to the wildlife on the land.
The area contains, Whitetail Deer, Rio Grande Turkeys, Coyotes, Armadillo, a family of Hawks, an Owl, several variaties of little birds, Roadrunners, Red-eared Turtles, a small Tortoise, Tree Frogs, and of course Field Mice and Forest Rats. Some of the deadlier creatures are Rattlesnakes, Cottonmouths, and Copperhead. But, the wildlife is more afraid of people so on any given day all anyone will see is the small birds that flitter in the bushes.
For those people who camp on the Faire site, we recommend not pitching camp near any of the large piles of brush, as these are living places for mice, 'dillos, etc. The large camping area used during the 2006 and 2007 Faires have been turned into a feeding area for the local deer and turkeys.
There are nesting boxes scattered around the grounds in an attempt to provide places for the eastern bluebird to lay their eggs. These boxes are checked regularly.
